Chicago was named the Best Sports City in the United States by The Sporting News in 1993 and 2006. The city is home to two Major League Baseball teams: the Chicago Cubs of the National League play on the city's North Side, in Wrigley Field (10.8 mi), while the Chicago White Sox of the American League play in U.S. Cellular Field (15.6 mi) on the city's South Side.
Chicago is the only city in North America that has had more than one Major League Baseball franchise every year since the American League began in 1900. The Chicago Bears, one of the two remaining charter members of the NFL, play their home games at Soldier Field (14.9 mi) on Chicago's lakefront.

Maywood Park, located in Melrose Park, features harness racing, as well as simulcast betting. Maywood Park was originally the home of Cook County Fairgrounds and was issued Illinois' first harness racing license in 1946.

For over 80 years, Arlington Park has prided itself on being a leader in thoroughbred racing. Seasonal fun for the family includes live music, pony rides, and more. Located in Stickney, Illinois, just west of Chicago, Hawthorne Race Course first opened in 1891. The track features spring and fall thoroughbred racing and summer harness racing, as well as daily simulcasting.
Grandstand admission is free. Clubhouse seating offers reserved seats in the Clubhouse for a small fee. The Turf Club offers a buffet or plated luncheon and race viewing from inside or outdoor boxes. On most Saturday mornings, you can attend a free workshop where you'll learn more about racing and handicapping. The track offers a variety of dining options, from concession stands to fine dining.
